The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas has brought out the glaring double standards of parts of the Australian Muslim community. While they loudly demand justice and peace, their actions and rhetoric often betray an alarming bias against Israel and the Jewish people.
This hypocrisy is not only unjust but dangerous. It undermines the truth that Israel is the eternal homeland of the Jewish people and turns a blind eye to the terror and hatred propagated by Hamas.
Refusal to condemn Hamas’ terrorism
Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel was one of the most horrific acts of terror in modern history. Over 1,400 innocent Israelis were slaughtered, including entire families, children, and the elderly. Yet many Australian Muslim leaders remained silent on these atrocities. In fact, some defended them.
For instance, at a pro-Palestinian rally in Sydney, Ismail al-Wahwah of Hizb ut-Tahrir praised the attack as a “righteous response to occupation.” Another speaker at a Melbourne protest called the massacre a “resistance operation.” These statements not only fail to condemn the butchery of Israeli civilians by Hamas but glorify it, showcasing an appalling lack of humanity.
Selective outrage
While these leaders cry foul over every Israeli airstrike—many of which are in direct response to rocket attacks—they remain silent on Hamas’ war crimes. Hamas uses Gaza’s civilian population as human shields, firing rockets from schools and hospitals. Yet, the outrage from these communities is directed solely at Israel, which is defending its citizens.
Where are the protests against Hamas’ corruption, which diverts billions in international aid into terror tunnels and weapons? Where is the condemnation for Hamas’ open calls for the destruction of Jews, not just Israel? The hypocrisy here is undeniable.
Denial of Jewish biblical rights to the land of Israel
The Jewish people are undeniably indigenous to the land of Israel, a truth rooted deeply in history, religion, and the Old Testament, which serves as an enduring record of their connection to this sacred land. From the covenant God made with Abraham in Genesis 15:18—“To your descendants I give this land, from the Wadi of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates”—it is clear that Israel was divinely promised to the Jewish people.
This land was not just a gift but a birthright, a place where their identity and destiny were to unfold. The Old Testament recounts how Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the patriarchs of the Jewish nation, dwelled in the land, established altars to God, and cultivated a spiritual and physical bond with it that has never been broken.
Throughout the Bible, this connection is reinforced. In Joshua 1:6, God commands Joshua, “Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.” The Jewish people’s conquest and settlement of Canaan were not acts of imperialism but the fulfillment of divine promise.
Jerusalem, the heart of Israel, is mentioned over 600 times in the Old Testament, underscoring its centrality to Jewish identity. From King David establishing Jerusalem as the eternal capital in 2 Samuel 5:7 to the building of Solomon’s Temple as a house for God’s presence (1 Kings 8:13), the Jewish people’s connection to the land of Israel is spiritual, historical, and undeniable. Any attempt to sever this bond is not only a denial of history but a rejection of biblical truth.
Denial of Israel’s right to exist
Many in the Australian Muslim community push the narrative that Israel is a “colonial state,” ignoring the Jewish people’s 3,000-year connection to the land. Israel was re-established in 1948 as a haven for a people persecuted for centuries, culminating in the Holocaust. To deny Israel’s legitimacy is to deny the Jewish people their right to safety and self-determination.
I want to emphasise that Israel is not just a nation—it is the eternal home of the Jewish people. The double standards and hypocrisy of some Australian Muslim leaders must be called out. True justice means condemning all forms of terror and standing with Israel, a beacon of democracy in a hostile region. It’s time for all Australians to reject this bias and support Israel’s fight for peace and survival.

It’s not only the hypocrisy of Muslims. The deep or not not deep rooted antisemitism has come to the fore aided by this misguided belief in oppressors (always wrong) and oppressed (always right). The Labor government has shown lack of leadership which has permeated universities. The problem is much wider than the Muslim community. It’s the lack of courage to tackle the issues.
Everything you say is true. I know because I am reading the bible. Many of my Catholic friends do not know the scriptures, as we were never encouraged. I am now in a lovely Anglican Church where 99% know their scriptures and support Israel. I also read passages from the Quaran which are threatening to all of us, including permission granted by clerics to muslims to lie to non muslims. I am mindful of persecuted, peaceful muslims, especially in Europe where they are ancestors of Christians who were forced to convert during the Holy War . As we know,God watches all,and he will protect Israel. God Bless, Tricia Flores.
